An anonymous cutting in the artist’s papers placed in April or May 1892 says that after Muller-Ury has spent three months in Europe from June he will return to Newport to paint several portraits including one of Mrs. F. W. Vanderbilt.
Her husband was Frederick William Vanderbilt (born 1856; died June 29, 1938), and she was Mrs Alfred Torrence (née Anthony), and married him in 1880. He lived at Hyde Park on the Hudson.
