The sitter was born at Tidioute on August 9, 1875. He married first Mary Abbey Hewitt (born 1877) of Derby, Connecticut on January 6, 1904, but she died five years later. His second wife was Harriet Hurd (born 1873), whom he married on April 3, 1913. He died on September 29, 1942 in Titusville, Pennsylvania.
