The artist states in his diary for January 2, 1935 that he is going to paint a ‘Bambino Gesu’; the following day he says he would like to give this picture to the church in Hospental and on January 15 he is working on this. It would appear that after exhibiting it at Wildenstein’s in the Spring of 1937 the picture was brought to Switzerland, and although he was photographed in front of it at the time he was painting Motta in 1938 the picture remained in the Haus Müller-Lombardi.
