The stretcher of the Angel which belonged to Jessica Dragonette (now in a New York Private Collection) bears the pencilled words ‘Miss Ludlow’ in pencil, but there is no evidence that it is painted over her portrait. This suggests that Muller-Ury saved money in the 1940s by removing a 1920s canvas of Miss Ludlow from the stretcher (another copy made for exhibition purposes?).
