The sitter’s husband had opened a gallery at 25 West 54th Street, in about 1922, having previously worked for Henry Reinhardt & Son on Fifth Avenue, where Muller-Ury had exhibited his portrait of Mme. Pardo y Bareda in 1918.
The sitter is possibly Eleanor Coles Titus (born 1890) of Burlington, New Jersey, who married Walter P. Fearon on January 28, 1909.
Muller-Ury records in his diary that Mrs Walter Fearon of New York went with him to the Huntington Library and Art Gallery on 3 February 1931.
