Full-length, seated on a step by a stone pillar. He wears a satin suit with lace collar and cuffs, hands folded in his lap, his fair hair long and not tied. Signed lower right.

The sitter is probably not Franklin Steele Wiltse (born 22 October 1880, died 29 September 1954), the eldest son of Captain Gilbert Wiltse, who later joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and who served, about 1908 at Kingston, Jamaica, on the U.S.S. Dixie, but the youngest son Arthur Gilbert Wiltse (9 May 1885, died 8 May 1914).
