Watercolour: Hospental, Switzerland – View under the Arched Stone Bridge over the Gotthardreuss River to the Dorfbrücke.

Description:
Watercolour and pencil on white wove paper from a sketchbook, 14.6 x 23.7 cm.

Location:
Private Collection, London, UK.

Provenance:
Adelina Gähler-Müller; Margrit Gähler, Herisau; by descent from her nephew Peter Conrad.

One of a group of three watercolours of Hospental created in the summer of 1894, previously framed and glazed.

Removed from the old mounts for cleaning and de-acidification in 1996; however acid lines remain visible on the margins. It must be assumed that having been hung in the light for many years the watercolour has somewhat faded.
