Watercolour: Hospental, Switzerland – Oberfall, 27 July 1894, 2pm

Description:
Watercolour and pencil on white wove paper from a sketchbook, 14.6 x 23.7 cm. Inscribed ‘Oberfall, Hospenthal, 27 July 94, 2p.’

Location:
Private Collection, London, UK.

Provenance:
Adelina Gähler-Müller; Margrit Gähler, Herisau; by descent from her nephew Peter Conrad.

One of a group of three watercolours of Hospental created in the summer of 1894, previously framed and glazed. This one unusually dated and the time indicated.

Removed from the old mounts for cleaning and de-acidification in 1996; however acid lines remain visible on the margins. It must be assumed that having been hung for many years the watercolour has faded.
