Archbishop Rummel was born in Baden, West Germany on October 14, 1876, and died in New Orleans on November 8, 1964 (he was buried in St. Louis Cathedral crypt, New Orleans). He came to the United States with his parents in 1882 and was naturalised in 1888. He was educated in Pennsylvania, Manchester, Yonkers and at the North American College in Rome in 1903. He had been ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 1902. He worked in churches in New York until 1924, when he was named Papal Chamberlain with title of Very Reverend Monsignor. Bishop of Omaha in 1928 he was subsequently appointed Archbishop of New Orleans in March 1935. His residence was at 2809 South Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans 18, U.S.A.
