Jarvis Weightman Meirs was born on 12 June 1901 to Richard Waln Meirs (1866-1917) and Anne Walker Weightman (1871-1958). He died in 1930.
Almost certainly painted about 1908. An undated letter in the artist’s papers, written from 1336 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, may refer to this portrait:
‘My dear Mr Muller Ury
I
have pleasure in enclosing $2000 and desire to thank you again for the splendid
portrait.
