Lawless was an active Sierra Madre Woman’s Club member and served as president 1911-12, 1923-24, and 1936-37. She was founder of the Weaver Jackson Beauty Company. On December 5, 1936, she bought the Wistaria Vine property (on Piedmont – later 201 W. Carter Avenue, Sierra Madre [the Guinness Book of Records has named it the World’s largest flowering plant as it covers more than one acre), hosting many cultural events there under its spreading tendrils until her death in 1942.

Her husband, William J. Lawless, was Mayor of Sierra Madre 1928-1929. The couple lived in a Greene and Greene house, designed in 1908, in Sierra Madre.
